Myositis is rare, and progress depends on research. The Centre's clinicians study how these diseases are diagnosed and treated, and take part in the national effort to understand them better.
The Centre's research interests span inflammatory muscle disease and how best to care for it. That includes cancer-associated myositis and malignancy screening, the diagnosis of inflammatory and necrotizing myopathies, neuromuscular testing and quality of care, and rehabilitation and functional outcomes. Our team has published on how neurologists and rheumatologists screen for cancer in myositis, and on the diagnosis of inflammatory muscle disease.
Our clinicians' published work is listed on public databases, which stay up to date as new papers appear.
Because myositis is rare, research centres work together to learn faster. The Centre supports the national research community, including the Canadian Inflammatory Myopathy Study, a country-wide network studying these diseases.
From time to time there are studies that patients of the Centre may be able to join. Because these open and close over time, we do not list them here. If you are a patient and would like to know whether a current study might be right for you, ask your Centre clinician, who will have the latest information. Taking part is always your choice, and it does not change the care you receive.
Clinicians interested in collaborating are welcome to contact the Centre.
